Dec 10th - Aurina - Women's Legal Education and Action Fund

When I first moved to Toronto from Mumbai, I didn't know anyone in the city. I moved here to go to law school, which was stressful, hectic, and didn't leave me much time for a social life. By chance, in 2011, I discovered Choir! Choir! Choir! I was drawn to it by my love for singing, but I would never have guessed what an integral part of my life it would become. Choir! gave me music, friendships, love, my first real Christmas dinner, a chance to sing at Carnegie Hall, and most crucially, a sense of belonging, an assurance that Toronto was my home.

My charity of choice is LEAF: Women's Legal Education and Action Fund, an organization dedicated to defending equality rights for women and girls as enshrined in the Canadian Charter. The tremendous effect that LEAF has had on women in Canada cannot be overstated. They have played a crucial role in landmark cases in the fields of preventing violence against women, discrimination in the workplace, access to reproductive freedoms, spousal support, and the right to pay equity, among several others. At a time when it seems like every day reveals a new monstrous reality for women all over the world, donating to LEAF feels like an obvious choice. #25DaysOfCharity
